The Well Store is a gorgeous Australian beauty & wellness store, carrying only the cleanest and greenest beauty brands from around the globe. All brands and products are vetted to founder Mariana’s strict standards to ensure The Well Store offers only the best for you, your family and your health. I recently sat down with Mariana to chat a little more about the brand, her reasons for creating The Well Store & her thoughts on the future of green beauty.

You can explore the range here, with free shipping in Australia, US, UK, NZ & CA on orders over $50.

Have you always been into organic beauty and an organic lifestyle? If not, what prompted the change?

I have always loved beautiful skincare products, packaging and supposed natural smelling products but I was never aware of the dirty ingredients that were in their formulations until my dear mother was struck down with cancer in 2007. Her terminal illness led me to question and hunt for answers and I literally stumbled across the mind-blowing and highly toxic concoction of ingredients that our largest organ - the skin was absorbing, straight into our precious bodies! These toxic ingredients were in all the mainstream skincare and beauty products. Unfortunately, my father was also diagnosed with cancer as well a few years later and this just pushed me further into hunting, researching and educating myself, my family and friends into what we as consumers need to steer clear of!

You have quite an extensive range of products at The Well Store. What do you look for in the brands/products you carry?

I personally search and check each of the products we would like to stock at The Well Store. Our strict criteria first and foremost it has to be of free toxins and harsh chemicals (look at our top 10 List of Nasty Ingredients) that harm our bodies. I wouldn't dream of stocking things that would include these ingredients!

The Well Store would NEVER stock products that are not cruelty-free either. All of our products are cruelty-free because we just adore our furry friends so much. Ethical brands are always on our list as well and we are quite lucky that companies have now realised this. It's paramount to me that my brands create clean and safe products with sustainable practices. We aim to work with brands that also leave a positive mark on the community they work with and the planet too.

If you could create your own line or product, what would it be?

That is a tough one because I would like to do so much. I guess Rome wasn't built in a day though?! Whatever it may be from skincare to cosmetics, they would all be eco-friendly with sustainable, clean and safe ingredients that are so nourishing for your body both inside and out.

What is your favourite part about owning a green beauty store?

I love this question. My passion runs deep and The Well Store is an advocate for this and for all of our followers who want to learn more about healthier, greener options and finding a solution. I believe education is the key and as consumers are becoming a lot savvier, my role is to open their eyes, show them and allow them to make informed decisions that directly affect their health and that of the planet. This truly has to be my favourite thing; I know I'm doing what I love when I get followers thanking me for opening their eyes to a cleaner, greener range of products and alternatives! I am very grateful, it's such a blessing to able to share all of this. My mission, love and passion will never end.
I believe the most important thing is that we the consumer need to speak up, express our dislike for the toxin-filled products we are forced to buy due to lack of green choices. If things are to change, we are the ones who need to get the wheels in motion.Mariana Boulos, The Well Store

What would you like to see for the future of green beauty?

So much! I think we are heading down the path of greener world — thankfully — with more and more of us not putting up with the chemical concoctions we are exposed to. It is so important that green beauty becomes more accessible for all of us, with both price and also product allocation in mainstream commercial stores.

But I believe the most important thing is that we the consumer need to speak up, express our dislike for the toxin-filled products we are forced to buy due to lack of green choices. If things are to change, we are the ones who need to get the wheels in motion, ask for more transparency, better product formulations and do not be afraid to contact the big brands. I dream of the day you will be able to find a whole range of green beauty and skincare brands stocked on the shelves of your local department stores - minus the greenwashing. Remember consumers are the key to this - we can make it happen!
