Gressa Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation Review

Saturday, October 28, 2017

I was so excited to get my hands on the Gressa Skin Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation when it arrived in Australia. Popular with eco makeup artists and health-conscious beauty professionals, even Gressa's makeup is skincare and makeup in one.

There was no hesitation here - the very first instant I tried the Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation I knew I loved it. It creates effortless, beautiful coverage, transforming the skin in under 30 seconds to velvety, liquid-to-powder perfection. See the close up below. I am wearing NO concealer anywhere - and my skin was not having a good day.

This foundation is incredibly concentrated - you can achieve great medium coverage with just 3 drops, full coverage with 3-4, or a tad more layered over problem areas. Really - don't use any more than that, it isn't necessary and you'll just be wasting product (and probably end up a creasing mess).
(how I apply this below)

The foundation is described as - luxury skin perfector: a serum and a foundation in one. In addition, it’s a healthy, multivitamin shot for your face to help boost your skin's youthful radiance beyond skin deep. Perfect your face with long-term benefits of this revolutionary serum to powder foundation.

The foundation is packaged in a glass dropper bottle. It's easy to get the perfect amount and not waste product, it's also pretty mess-free.

I wear the shade 2.5. In Summer I may need the 3 or to mix the two, but as I haven't tried it I can't be certain. For reference, I also wear Kjaer Weis Silken, RMS Beauty #11, Alima Pure Dew. If you need help matching or have a question about shades, just leave it in the comments below or shoot me an email.

To apply:
I begin my priming my skin with 2 full pumps of the La Mav Bio Active Primer. (just apply with fingers, massaging in and focusing on dry, rough or uneven areas)

I use the MOTD Cosmetics Beauty & the Base Brush (code LIBERTYGREEN saves 10% off), which buffs this into the skin to a flawless finish in 30 seconds.

The amount I use varies based on my skin for the day or desired coverage. I always start with just 2-3 drops, into the palm of my hand. I then dot the foundation onto my skin evenly - focusing where I want more coverage. Buff into the skin in circular motions.

If I then need more coverage (such as I did with the below). I put one more drop into my hand, dipped the brush into it and stippled (a patting motion) it where I would usually put concealer.

You can see in both photos below the flawless coverage this method achieves.
My skin had quite a few problem areas around my chin and outer areas of the face on the day these were taken, and you can't even tell.

It also never looks heavy or cakey, or dry or flaky using this method. It just feels light and flawless.

Aside from foundation, the only other products I am wearing here are:

Alima Pure Satin Finishing Powder Keiko / SHOP: AU use code LIBERTYGREEN / USA & CA
Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in EmbraceSHOP use code LIBERTYGREEN
Plume Brow Pomade / SHOP use code LIBERTYGREEN
Kjaer Weis Radiance Highlighter / SHOP
Ere Perez Volumising Waterproof Mascara / SHOP
Karen Murrell Lipstick in Carnation Mist / SHOP

There is nothing else on my skin.
You can also easily just use 1-2 drops if you like/want sheer, light coverage - just enough to even out the skin tone or redness if you don't really have any blemishes. It's incredibly versatile.

The Gressa Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation also lasts all day without the need for touch-ups when set with a powder. Without, it does get a dewy finish towards the end of the day.

You can purchase Gressa Skin or samples here in Australia, with free shipping over $50 and 10% off your 1st order with code LIBERTYGREEN.

Edible Beauty No.4 + Tinted Vanilla Silk Hydrating Lotion Review (and a discount)

Friday, October 20, 2017

Edible Beauty is an Australian skincare brand based on the philosophy that what you put on your skin should be good enough to eat. Edible Beauty products contain only the highest grade plant-based ingredients, both certified organic and from wildcrafted sources.

The skin is our largest organ, and 70% of what we put on our skin is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. The brand was developed by naturopath and nutritionist Anna Mitsios.
Edible Beauty Australia offer edible skin care products, herbal beauty elixirs and wild-crafted exotic teas containing evidence-based therapeutic botanicals designed to have you glowing both inside and out. Anna is passionate about using nutrition through food and herbs to achieve radiance, vitality and bountiful youth. It is one of my favourite skincare lines for the consistently beautiful products that are not only 100% natural, but also highly effective.

Edible Beauty is also cruelty-free and vegan.

Edible Beauty No.4 + Tinted Vanilla Silk Hydrating Lotion
Use code LIBERTYGREEN20 to save 20% off when you order here.

The Vanilla Silk Hydrating Lotion is the most luscious, silky texture. It is beautifully light on the skin and absorbs quickly, leaving my complexion feeling hydrated and supple.

The No.4 + Tinted Vanilla Silk Hydrating Lotion is the same formula as the untinted version (which I've used in the past), just with the inclusion of a mineral tint. This moisturiser isn't designed to give you coverage (and isn't a makeup substitute), but rather a subtle sun-kissed glow. The tint is just enough to add a little touch of colour to my skin (so you do look sun-kissed, but not tanned - it's almost invisible) and absorbs fully. You don't need to worry about colour coming off your face throughout the day.

I use this in the morning paired with an oil, or when using the untinted version, you can use it both morning and night. It wears beautifully under makeup, really hydrating the skin to ensure a smooth application. There is no icky feeling or greasy residue with any of the Edible Beauty products, something that I used to have a lot of trouble with prior to discovering Edible Beauty.

Two or three pumps is sufficient for my face and decollete, and I also notice an improvement in the lines on my neck (which appear whenever I neglect that area) and plumpness of the skin when using this daily.

The Vanilla Silk Hydrating Lotion contains -

  • Australian Rosella Extract, known as the “botox” plant, thanks to its natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s) which helps to speed up cell turnover, increase moisture and flexibility and encourage fresh, younger looking skin.
  • Black Raspberry contains a natural SPF and is loaded with the powerful anti-inflammatory resveratrol, which protects the skin against inflammation. The antioxidant function of these stem cells extends skin cell longevity by repairing DNA damage and preventing internal and external oxidation.
  • Lemon Aspen which contains flavone glycosides, strong antioxidants which help combat the free radicals that damage the skin. It strengthens capillaries, helps to increase collagen production and improves skin texture.

You can read the full ingredient list here.

I absolutely love this entire line, and if you are looking for a beautiful moisturiser to use morning or night, with or without makeup, then you really can't go past this one. It really is great product for all ages and skin types. Use code LIBERTYGREEN20 to save 20% off when you order here.

Ere Perez 2017 Collection Review + Get the Look

Sunday, October 15, 2017

I began this blog two years ago to the date, with a review of Ere Perez, so I think it's only fitting (and actually, entirely coincidental) that this post is going up on the 2nd birthday of Liberty Green.

The entire Ere Perez brand has had an overhaul in the last few months, with gorgeous new packaging (still in their chic silver and white minimalist style, but with more glass, less plastic).
The Arnica Concealers have been revamped and reformulated, now in a layerable, full-coverage cream consistency. The Carrot Colour Pots are now also in the same glass pot as the concealers, but with a mirrored lid, and new shades.

I also have their new Lip liner Pencil in Sweet, but I'll be reviewing that separately.
Don't forget to use discount code LIBERTYGREEN to save 10% off your 1st order plus there is free shipping within AU over $50 on any order.

This is a super pretty peachy pink - just peachy enough not to be washed out, it also looks beautiful on the lips. The shade Harmony is incredibly close to Kjaer Weis Blush in Blossoming, but this is more on the pink spectrum. The colour is intensely pigmented, so only tap your brush once or twice in the pot, building up the colour only if needed.

It is creamy enough to give a light dewiness to the skin, and not be dry on the lips, but stays put and doesn't fade throughout the day.

I've been using the new Multi-Purpose Brush to apply this to the apples of my cheeks, and this brush is the perfect size for the pot, and my cheeks. I absolutely LOVE it. It distributes the product evenly over the skin without disturbing the foundation or concealer underneath. I've actually been using it for all my cream blushes. I wonder now how I ever lived without it.
I actually think this brush would also work well for concealer/foundation, but I've yet to test it for that.

I've been wearing the brown Ere Perez eye pencil for ages, but the new Bronze shade takes it up a notch. It has a soft metallic finish, that adds a subtle light and sheen to the eyes, rather than a flat finish. All of the eye pencils are very creamy, so you can smudge it out with a brush for a soft smoky effect, or set with a little powder to stay put all day.

I have found the Bronze shade is creamier than the Brown pencil, so if you don't want to smudge your eyeliner, I recommend you opt for the latter instead.

This is the product that I love the new formula and packaging of the most.
The old style was in a roller-ball applicator, and the formula was very thin (almost water-like). I could NEVER get it to work for me - all of the colour ended up settling into the inner area of my lips, and it wouldn't blend well on the cheeks.

The new Beetroot Lip & Cheek Tint has a doe-foot applicator wand, and more of a gel-like consistency. It provides a long-lasting stain to the lips and cheeks - once it's on, it will stay put for hours.

I have been loving wear this on my lips especially. If you like bold, red lips but hate the maintenance, this product is for you!! I can wear it with just lip balm over the top (for moisture), alone, or even pair it with a little lipstick if I want a custom shade that I know won't wear off.

To apply: I put lip balm on, let sit whilst I do my makeup, then blot off any excess. I swipe the colour onto my lips, focusing on the outer edges most (as the colour holds more readily to the inner lip). I then use my finger or a dry Beauty Blender sponge to pat the colour out. It dries within seconds, and then you're done! If I want more intense colour, I simply build it up.

For the cheeks, it's easiest if you apply it from the back of your hand, in a quick patting/blending motion.

The formula of this hasn't changed, but the packaging has. It's sleeker, in a screw-top pan rather than the old mirrored compact. The new flat-topped packaging makes all of these products much easier to store.

The shade Falling Star is reminiscent of RMS Beauty's Living Luminiser, but with a more golden undertone. It gives the skin a glowy, lit from within look (as you can see below). I love it!

Indagare Beauty Review (and a discount!)

Saturday, October 14, 2017

Indagare Beauty is a gorgeous Australian skincare brand, currently with just two oils - mostly Certified Organic - currently in the range. (Indagare meaning ‘to investigate’ or ‘explore.)

Despite how many products that I have tried (and constantly having to expand storage for) as a beauty blogger, I do actually like a really simple routine. I don’t think you need a hundred steps and products in order to have good skin - it is simply a matter of quality, and finding what works for you.

The Signature Night Recovery Oil and Illumino Youth Serum could easily be the foundation to your skincare (I’d add in a toner and water-based serum or moisturiser). Both oils include organic Prickly Pear Seed Oil.

Prickly Pear Seed Oil is:

  • ❤ Remarkably lightweight oil that is easily absorbed
  • ❤ Brightening serum that with regular use gives skin a gorgeous glow
  • ❤ Incredible amounts of skin-softening vitamin E - more than any other beauty oil
  • ❤ Boasting high amounts, 60.5 %, of Linoleic Acid (an essential fatty acid) which is proven to lighten sun-induced hyper-pigmentation
  • ❤ Soothes inflammation
  • ❤ Boosts cellular turnover and stimulates collagen production
  • ❤ Rich in vitamin K which helps even skin tone and reduce dark circles under eyes

The Illumino Youth Serum (designed for morning use) has a high amount of Prickly Pear Seed Oil, along with Organic Neroli and Geranium essential oils.

The Signature Night Recovery Oil contains Prickly Pear Seed oil alongside 18 other botanicals, such as Tamanu oil (regenerating, promotes new, healthy cell growth), Evening Primrose (heals and reduces inflammation), Sea Buckthorn oil (regenerating, skin strengthening) and Carrot Seed essential oil (rich in carotenoids that help decrease damage from ultraviolet exposure, aids in fading sun spots and pigmentation).

Both oils are incredibly lightweight and absorb rapidly into the skin. I use 4-6 drops of each, morning and night.

You can really swap either oil around and use them morning, night or both. I was actually looking forward to trying these in the warmer weather, as they are so light, but October has been rather much cooler than it usually is at this time of year (I’m still wearing slippers in the mornings!), so I’m afraid I can’t report there. That said, knowing how light they feel, and how soft, supple and non-greasy my skin is left feeling, I know that when Summer eventually rolls around, I’ll still be able to enjoy them both as much.

I'm also completely in love with the packaging. Both oils are in glass, the Signature Night Recovery Oil in Miron glass, and the outer packaging is a cardboard tube  (they're stunning!) - so extremely minimal plastic (the caps).

Within the first week of use, my skin was looking very clear, evenly toned and radiant. I wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence or not, but after several more weeks use I’m really happy with how well it helped to heal some breakouts I had and also fade the red marks left behind.

My skin is left feeling ultra-soft afterwards, and the Illumino Youth Serum is beautiful under makeup. As it absorbs so well, if you have dry skin you may still want a primer or moisturiser over the top. Because it absorbs really thoroughly, I also don't mind pressing a few drops into my neck and decolletage, whereas I usually avoid oils altogether below the jaw.

The high amounts of fatty acids and antioxidants also make these amazing for helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, protect against free radicals and also help with sun and age spots.

Overall, I really love both of these oils. They work beautifully in harmony together, as stand-alone products in an incredibly simple skincare routine, or part of a more complex routine.

IME Natural Perfume Ourania Review

Thursday, October 05, 2017

Many perfume aficionado's would be incorrect in assuming that expensive, higher-end perfumes contain real botanical extracts and natural fragrances. The majority of perfume today is nearly all (if not entirely) synthetic.

Synthetic fragrance would have to be one of the most toxic products you can own. Ingredients do not have to be disclosed under laws that protect fragrance as ‘trade secrets’. Many components of fragrance have been linked to or proven to cause endocrine disruption, reproductive failure, organ system toxicity, developmental disorders, and cancer. Synthetic fragrance can contain hundreds of individual chemicals.

Many of the preservatives in fragrance also contain Formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen, which is released at very low temperatures. Aside from the more serious health concerns regarding synthetic fragrance, for many, it can cause headaches, nausea, trigger asthma and migraines and cause respiratory distress.

A brilliant book on fragrance (really, it's quite an interesting read whether you care about natural or not) is The Case Against Fragrance by Kate Grenville. I highly recommend you read it (see if your library has a copy!). It's an easy read, She talks about the immediate side effects as well as those over the long term - such as what it does to women and unborn babies, and how it affects our development later in life, backed up with sound scientific research.

It is possible to have gorgeous 100% natural perfume, without a headache and synthetic scents. Created in partnership with a master perfumer, IME Perfume is certified Cruelty Free, Certified Toxin-free with Safe Cosmetics Australia, Certified 100% Natural with The Natural Perfumers Guild and also certified by IFRA.

The nine scents each have a Greek Goddess muse, designed around the personality of the Goddess.

I have the scent Ourania.
Described as — Optimistic, Happy. Intuitive.

The muse of Astronomy is a visionary and optimistic. She will guide you to reach for the stars and land upon your dreams. Use your intuition to find the heavenly goddess within and elevate yourself to experience the future you desire. Scent: Oriental, Floral, Musk A delicate and subtle array of florals on soft, sensitive and sweet timbers. Beautiful and profound.

Inspired Notes: Orange, Pink Grapefruit Spearmint, Spearmint, Pine, Marjoram, Howood, Jasmine Absolute, Guaiacwood, Patchouli, Vanilla Absolute, Peru Balsam

The packaging is stunning - I really love the glass paired with the timber cap and then the spray applicator. The scent lasts for 4-6hrs, which I think is pretty good considering it doesn’t have any of the synthetic chemical fixatives usually required for perfume.

Ourania is definitely a sweet (but not at all sickly) floral scent, with musk base notes. It's a beautiful fragrance.

IME Perfumes does well to describe each scent and offers travel sizes as well as the full-size bottles. But if you really can’t decide, they also have a trial pack of all nine scents for you to sample each and decide which is your favourite!

You can explore and shop IME Perfume here, with international shipping also available.
What is your current perfume? Have you ditched the toxins yet and made the switch?
