Metta Skincare Vanilla Body Butter & Lip Balm Review (and a discount!)

Friday, April 29, 2016

Body Butters would have to be one of my favourite moisturisers. Thick, creamy and luxurious, they're a dream to apply and one of the best ways to moisturise the skin. I'm also always applying lip balm, otherwise I end up with my lips feeling dried-out, and I'm always on the hunt for something moisturising, that lasts. So I was so excited when I received the Metta Skincare Vanilla Body Butter and Lip Balm to try!

Metta Skincare is 100% Natural, Australian and made-by-hand, small-batch skincare at it's finest.
The products come packaged in glass jars that can be repurposed after use, or sent back to Metta for reuse. The chic labels are printed on 100% tree-free Stone Paper, which is an earth friendly energy efficient and acid free paper that is photodegradable and can be recycled!

I'm calling it - this is the most decadent body butter you'll ever try.

The Metta Skincare Vanilla Body Butter is so velvety, silky and fluffy I was so tempted to eat it right off my hands. It smells divine and almost feels (and looks!) like butter-cream icing.

The fluffy, whipped butter melts into the skin and a little goes a long way. The Vanilla Body Butter is intensely hydrating, leaving my skin smooth and nourished - not one trace of greasiness! It feels utterly heavenly and is such a treat to use all over! This sinks in so nicely and my skin feels beautiful after application.

With nothing but Certified Organic fairly traded shea, cocoa butter, grapeseed, coconut and jojoba oils and vanilla, this body butter is suitable for all skin types and is also vegan friendly.

If you love body butter and haven't yet tried Metta, all I can say is - Get. It. Now.
The jar is a generous 135g and as you need so little, this will last me a few months at least!

Lip Balm

As I said above, I'm quite literally always applying lip balm - every hour or two.
The Metta Skincare Lip Balm is a clear, lightweight lip balm that protects and hydrates.

It's a solid lip balm that melts into a really light oil/balm on the lips - it doesn't feel heavy as some are prone to doing and it sinks in nicely, rather than just sitting atop the skin without actually hydrating.

I love using this every day, and it keeps my lips hydrated overnight, too! I also don't think I've been applying this as often as I usually need to - a good sign! You can also use it on any dry spots on your skin or use it on your nails.

The Metta Lip Balm contains:

Jojoba Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil*, Beeswax*, Coconut Oil*, Cocoa Seed Butter*, Lavender Essential Oil*

*denotes certified organic ingredient

I'm in love with Metta Skincare and I can't wait to see more from the brand! The Vanilla Body Butter is heaven in a jar, and I'm certain this is going to be favourite item. The Lip Balm hydrates and nourishes effectively, and I'm love the adorable size! It also works beautifully to prep the lips prior to applying lipstick.

I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to offer you an exclusive 20% off your Metta Skincare order with discount code megsyjane20. Yay!! Metta Skincare also has free shipping within Australia, and free shipping for International orders over $60!

So what are you waiting for? Hop on over to Metta now!

Adorn Liquid Mineral Foundation Review

Thursday, April 21, 2016

Natural liquid or cream foundations can be tricky to find in an oil-free (or just coconut oil free) formula, and for those that find their skin reacts badly to oils, it can be frustrating.

The Organic Project is an Australian organic beauty & lifestyle shop, and they've also recently launched their USA site! They carry a great range of products and Australian brands - including Ere Perez, Simple As That, Nudus, Erica Brooke and Nilly & Booth.

Adorn Cosmetics is an Australian make-up and skincare brand that doesn't compromise on ethics, quality or luxury. Their products are cruelty free, non-toxic, vegan and Australia made & owned.

I opted for the shade Light - Medium in the foundation, and the colour Spring in the blush, which I will be reviewing separately.

Swatch Comparison, L-R: Kjaer Weis Foundation in Silken, RMS Beauty "Un" Coverup in #11, and Adorn Cosmetics Liquid Mineral Foundation in Light-Medium

My skin tone is light to medium, with neutral undertones. I wear rms beauty "Un" Coverup in #11 and Kjaer Weis Foundation in Silken, for reference.

As you can see in the swatch comparison above, the shade Light - Medium is a shade or so darker than what I usually wear, and has more pink than neutral or yellow undertones. That said, I can make it work for me, and during Summer however, it would probably be a closer match.

I do look a bit bronzed if I apply too much, so the shade Fair would probably be a better match for my skin tone, but with some blending (and mixing with the rms beauty "Un" Coverup), I can get away with it.

Coverage & Finish

The coverage of the Adorn Cosmetics Liquid Mineral Foundation is buidable from light to medium.
It evens the skin beautifully and gives medium coverage on blemishes - I applied the rms beauty "Un" Coverup in #11 over any redness still showing through afterwards, and around the eyes to brighten.

The foundation gives a very natural look, with a soft satin finish. As it is an oil-free formula, I didn't really need a setting powder (I gave a light dusting of the rms beauty Tinted "Un" Powder in 0-1 over the chin, t-zone, jawline, under the eyes and over the eyelids)

Formula, Application & Packaging

This was the weirdest thing for me (in a good way). It is called a Liquid Mineral Foundation, but it has almost a mousse texture vs a liquid, that dries quickly. It is actually difficult to describe, but the foundation feels very cool going onto the skin (similar to a wet clay mask), and is very lightweight once dry (you can sort of feel it drying/evaporating - it's a nicely odd sensation to have a "cool" foundation, almost like an air-con on your face!) I barely knew it was there.

To apply, I use 1-2 pumps onto the back of my hand, then dot it onto my face. I then blend and buff it out with my MOTD Cosmetics Beauty & The Base Foundation Brush, for a flawless, seamless finish. If I need more coverage you can build it up with another half pump or so. A little goes a very long way with this, so don't overdo it. You can always apply more if needed!

The Adorn Cosmetics Liquid Mineral Foundation doesn't settle into fine lines or cling to dry patches, and as it is oil-free, I didn't notice any additional shine or dewiness develop throughout the day. It lasts all day with no/minimal touch-ups and does not become patchy (as I've noticed some liquid foundations can do)

The packaging is sleek, airless pump (with a protective cap) and is very lightweight. It would be super easy to toss into your gym bag or for travelling with.

Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Distillate*, Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Zinc Oxide, Mica (CI 77019), Glycerine*, Cetearyl Glucoside, Cetearyl Alcohol, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Xanthan Gum, may contain (+/-) Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Ultramarines (CI 77007)

**Palm Oil Free

I was actually really surprised by this foundation - the texture was different than I was expecting, but it feels absolutely lovely and lightweight on the skin and I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it holds up in the Summer months, when everything feels like it's going to melt off my face in the humid, tropical Queensland heat. I think this one will last quite well!

The coverage is great, it blends easily with other products and lasts all day. I'm excited to explore more from the range!

You can purchase Adorn Cosmetics from The Organic Project (which has an Australian AND USA site, yay!). They also have free shipping Australia wide over $75!

Rose Gold Beauty - RMS Master Mixer

Monday, April 18, 2016

RMS Beauty is one of my absolute favourite brands - with Rose-Marie's (brand founder) less-is-more philosophy, product performance and quality of ingredients, it isn't hard to see why rms beauty is a cult brand.

I keep my collection of make-up products pretty streamlined and to a minimum (perhaps with the exception of my lipstick collection...), but as soon as I saw the rms beauty Master Mixer I knew it was coming home.

The rms beauty Master Mixer is a delicious rose-gold hue, and isn't just a highlighter.
You can mix it with any other product, cream or powder, to create your own custom colours, add dimension and luminosity.

You can see a close-up of my skin here which shows the truly radiant, luminous quality of this product (better than the below photo). I love using this as a warm highlight paired with a bronzer, or just blending it over my foundation to give the most beautiful all-over glow - without any shimmer or sparkle.

If you have the rms beauty Living Luminser, you know the texture and finish of it is quite a "wet" look. The Master Mixer is drier in texture than any other of the rms beauty products, but it is still blend-able to the point it melts effortlessly with other products.
Application Tips

As I mentioned above, you can use this with any other product. Cream, liquid or powder, it doesn't matter. Play with colours and experiment to find a look that is unique to you!

For an all-over luminous glow: after applying my foundation (full look details below), with a light touch, I simply dab the Master Mixer over the top with my finger tips, blending lightly.

For fuller lips: with an added dimension, simply press the Master Mixer over your lip colour into the centre of the lips with your finger tips, and blend out.

For a bronzed look: use the Master Mixer as your highlighter, rather than the usual white or golden-based hues, and pair with a bronzer for the ultimate golden glow.

You can also use this in place of a natural blush for a healthy, warm flush, as a highlighter (to cheekbones, cupid's bow and inner corner of the eye).

Rose-Marie has a short video here with application techniques.

Look Details (in order of application)

Foundation rms beeauty "Un" Coverup in #11
Highlight & Glow (all over foundation) rms beauty Master Mixer
Blush & Lipstick ILIA Beauty Multi-Stick in At Last (applied with finger tips)
Eyeshadow rms beauty Eye Polish in Lunar

Brushes (for a flawless finish)

MOTD Cosmetics - 10% off use discount code megsyjane
Beauty & The Base (the best brushes I've used)
Eye Catching Crease (SO good with the cream eye polish)

I purchase all my rms beauty from either RMS Beauty directly, or Beautylish, as both have low/free shipping options to Australia and I don't have to wait months for the new releases! (Mecca also doesn't carry the full range) Even with the poor exchange rate, it still works out better to order from the US.

You can also purchase rms beauty here:

Have you tried the RMS Master Mixer yet, or any others from the brand?

Sienna Byron Bay Nail Polish in Peace (and a discount!)

Sienna Byron Bay Nail Polish in Peace

You all know I'm a sucker for anything pink - from blush, to baby to rose hues.
Sienna Byron Bay nail polish in Peace is the perfect rosewater pink, that can be applied sheer (1 coat) and paired with a white polish to create French-tips, or applied to a pretty translucent finish (2-3 coats) for more depth of colour, that is a beautiful neutral for all occasions.

With most nail polish containing ingredients that have been linked to cancer, reproductive toxicity, organ toxicity and neurological disorders, there is NO excuse not to the make switch to a healthier alternative.

Each ingredient in Sienna Byron Bay Nail Polish  scores just 1-2 (safe) on EWG, making it one of the best and safest non-toxic nail polishes in a traditional formula (non water-based) I've found.

From Left: Sienna Byron Bay in Peace, Ambrosia and Bliss

After applying one coat of the Sticky Base Coat, I applied 2 coats of Peace for a finish that is still translucent enough to see the white tips of my nails, but opaque enough for a gorgeous, just-blushing milky baby pink colour.

I finished with a Lightening Top Coat for an extra glossy finish, and longer wear time.

I've reviewed both Ambrosia and Stone before, and Peace has proved to wear just as long.
I get at least 4 days to a weeks' wear before the edges will start to chip - no different to any other nail polish; simply without the toxic chemicals!

The sustainably sourced and locally milled timber caps are not only super gorgeous and chic, but they make for an extremely comfortable handle. The brushes are firm, and don't shed or streak the polish.

As I mentioned in my first review, the formula is pretty self-perfecting and self-levelling - even if you don't get it on perfectly, between coats it will settle and look flawless.

All Sienna Byron Bay nail polishes dry very quickly (touch dry within 2-3 mins), and are knock-proof in about 30mins, so I'm always careful within that time. I usually paint my nails in the afternoon on a weekend when I'm sitting down with a cup of tea or catching up on some reading, just to prevent any chipping while it finishes curing.

Sienna Byron Bay nail polish is also 7-free, cruelty free, vegan and Australian made and owned! You can see the ingredients here.

Overall I'm constantly impressed by Sienna Byron Bay (the bottles are SO pretty!), that hardest part will be choosing from the beautiful array of colours. If you're on the hunt for a truly non-toxic nail polish, your search stops here.

Don't forget to save 15% off your Sienna Byron Bay order with code megsyjane at checkout.

You can do further reading on non-toxic nail polish here and here.

Golden Glow: RMS Beauty Oil

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Facial oils are a wonderful little multi-tasker to have in your skincare routine. There is a multitude to choose from - from treatment oils for blemish-prone skin, to anti-ageing oils and everything in between.

I like to keep my skincare simple, with just a few products that can help keep my skin balanced and happy. The RMS Beauty Oil has been a staple in my skincare for a few years, as it is a well rounded little oil that performs so beautifully with the skin. With certified organic jojoba seed oil (which closely resembles our own natural sebum), rosehip seed oil (high in vitamin c & antioxidants), tamanu seed oil, buriti oil and herbal extracts of st. John's Wort, horsetail, calendula and tumeric, the RMS Beauty Oil is anti-inflammatory, calming, high in antioxidants and vitamin C.

(I purchase rms beauty from Beautylish as they have free shipping to Australia over $50USD!)

Another thing I love about facial oils is that they can be used for all skin types - including oily types. I recently wrote about why oils can actually be beneficial for oily skin. I apply this in the morning, as it is so lightweight and absorbs readily.

Buriti oil has recently been found to filter and absorb cancer-causing UV rays from the sun. You can also apply it in the evening, of course, but applying it in the morning just works better around my other skincare, and it performs so well under make-up I prefer it for day-time use.

The RMS Beauty Oil works beautifully to prep to the skin prior to make-up application, as it sinks in so quickly and leaves my skin beautifully silky. Apply just 2-3 drops, or use more if you want a really dewy, glowy finish to your make-up.

This oil is one that I consider a staple item - it keeps my skin tone even, radiant, reduces redness, aids in healing and has anti-ageing benefits, and a little goes a very long way! Within an hour of applying this I can see a noticeable difference in my skin tone - it is that good. If you haven't tried out this one yet, I suggest you get your hot little hands on it. It might seem a little pricey, but a bottle will last you 6-8 months, and it is packed full of high-quality ingredients.

Little Ondine Water-Based Nail Polish in the colour Fusion

Painting my nails is a calming ritual I enjoy; quiet moments spent just slowly, taking a few minutes to relax and focus on something small, and finishing with a pretty new manicure when you're done!

Being natural doesn't mean you have to go without completely, and this is a quick little DIY for a natural manicure.

What you'll need:

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream
- Weleda Nail Care Pen
- Cotton Buds (Q-tip)
- Cuticle Pusher/ Orange Stick
- Emery Board/Nail File
- Your choice of nail polish (my recommendations below)

My favourite nail polish -

Sienna Byron Bay | use discount code megsyjane to save 15% off your order | read my review
Little Ondine | use discount code MJ10 to save 10% off your order | read my review

The healthier your nails are, the better your nail polish will adhere and the longer your manicure will last overall. Prior to doing your manicure, you want to make sure your hands and nails are well hydrated - you don't want any rough edges! In the same way that good skincare is the foundation for smooth make-up application, the same applies to nail care.
The Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream and Weleda Nail Care Pen will prep your hands, but also keep them in tip-top shape even when your nails are bare!
I always make sure to massage an oil into my nail beds and cuticles for at least a week prior to doing a DIY natural manicure, but the Weleda Nail Care Pen makes it so much easier. I keep this on my bedside to apply at night, massage in and wake to shiny, smooth and healthy nails.
The Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream will take care of any dryness around the nail bed, and also keeps your hands smooth and hydrated (I'll be reviewing this more in-depth soon). You can still apply this to your hands every night with painted nails, but skip on the nail pen, of course.

Buff and shape your nails with the emery board (nail file), then wash and dry hands thoroughly.

Apply a base coat, and then 2-3 colour coats of your chosen nail polish.

I don't use a cuticle pusher on my nail beds as it can be quite damaging to the nail (and I don't have overly prominent cuticles), however, an orange stick is a handy little tool to keep on hand for cleaning up any mistakes!

The cotton buds (q-tips) work well for bigger messes, but if you've just made a small mistake, the fine, firm point of an orange stick is excellent for tidying up the edges - particularly with water-based nail polish (which I usually do after it's dried overnight)

If you're into nail art, you can use a double-ended ball stylus to create dots or patterns, which you can pick up from just about any craft store or online from sites like ebay or amazon.

Finish with 1-2 top coats and enjoy!
