Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in Silken | Review

Kjaer Weis (pronounced Kē-yar Wīs) is a brand that has been on my lust-list ever since I first discovered the more diverse, glamorous side of green beauty. From the heavenly packaging and clean ingredients to the rave reviews, this brand had me hooked.

The foundation was supposedly the queen of all green beauty foundations, with a price tag to match.
So, when I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Kjaer Weis Foundation, did it live up to the hype?

I was colour-matched to the shade Silken. I wear #11 in RMS Uncover Up and my skin tone is fair - medium with neutral undertones.

Silken is compared to Paper Thin with the same lightness, but with a yellow undertone - I actually didn't think Silken would be a good match for me as my skin tone is neutral, however, it does work!

For those unsure of their colour, you can order samples from I Am Natural Store (Australia), Citrine Beauty and Spirit Beauty Lounge in the US or Eco Diva Beauty in Canada also offer samples.

Kjaer Weis is the winner in this department; the heavy metal compacts designed by Marc Atlan are pure luxury. Created as a refillable system, the compacts and pans are also recyclable to reduce waste. The little red boxes are also simply gorgeous - tip: keep the red boxes to store/protect the compacts when travelling.

The reverse side of the compact lid (the moving mechanism) is also mirrored - making it not only perfect, but beautiful for touch-ups on the go.

The Kjaer Weis Foundation is CCPB Certified Organic & Cruelty Free.
Due to the beeswax component the foundation is not vegan.

Kjaer Weis says:

"Our products are made in Italy, a country that’s been a leading producer of the luxury goods for hundreds of years. Almost all of our makeup has been approved as “Certified Organic” or “Certified Natural” by the country’s organic inspection body, CCPB (Controllo e Certificazione Prodotti Biologici). “Certified Organic” products are 95% [of what materials can be deemed organic] certified organic in its formulation. “Certified Natural” products contain higher levels of materials that, while still natural, cannot be certified organic because they occur in non-agricultural environments. For example bamboo silica comes from bamboo grown in the wild. While there was no use of fertilizer, pesticides, etc, it grows in a non-supervised area. Such ingredients are identified as “wild crafted” or “natural”."

Ingredients List:

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Oil•, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil•, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch•, Cera Alba•, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax•, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil•, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Tocopheryl Acetate May Contain +/- Mica, CI 77891, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499

Performance, Coverage & Application

The thing I love best about the Kjaer Weis Foundation is the ability to give sheer to full coverage - depending on the desired coverage. This foundation is SO build-able and gives such a beautiful finish that you can use as little or as much as you like.

The cream-to-powder formula gives a beautiful natural satin finish, and a little goes a long way.
As always, I prep my skin prior to application - this is a must.

I apply using the Kjaer Weis Foundation Brush,or if you prefer a larger brush for faster application, you can also use the Kjaer Weis Blush Brush, or any other flat, cream foundation brush you have.

The foundation brush gives the most flawless coverage and seamlessly blends the foundation - this foundation is so blend-able and build-able that you can use it as a concealer only where you need coverage, or blend with another foundation (such as the RMS Uncover Up).

You can also apply it more heavily in the areas that need a little extra help, without it becoming heavy or cakey, and sheerly everywhere else and you won't be able to see the difference!

I set with RMS Tinted Un-powder (0-1) and the Kjaer Weis Foundation lasts all day.

As the Kjaer Weis brand has been created as a refillable system, the initial investment of the Foundation (with compact) is expensive ($94AUD or $68USD), however, the refills are priced at around $57AUD or $40USD - putting it in the price range of most other high-performing green beauty foundations.

This foundation would have to be the best I have ever used - green beauty or otherwise.

The coverage, performance and ingredients make this a must-have item that I will not be without - I will definitely be repurchasing. If you haven't used this foundation yet and are on the hunt for a full-coverage (but flexible) option, I highly recommend getting your hands on some samples!

  1. I've got a few Kjaer Weis items (adore the blushes) in my stash and was lucky enough to meet the lady herself earlier this year. I got the foundation in the summer and it's fab but i think in the winter when my skin gets really dry it might not be the best fit.

    1. Lucky you! I'd love to be able to meet a few of the founders of my favourite brands ;)
I adore the blushes (I've tried samples), and really need to add them to my collection! I'm also lusting over a few of the lip tints. Do you prep your skin with an oil prior to foundation application? If you make sure to properly hydrate your skin prior to applying the foundation, it should still apply beautifully in winter for you - Kelsey x
