6 Natural Skincare Products to Combat Pigmentation

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Whether i'ts hyper pigmentation, sun spots, ago spots or post-acne pigmentation, most of us will deal with some type of pigmentation at one point or another. Even if you don't have any particular spots you're dealing with and want to be gone, all of these products will help promote a more evenly toned complexion overall, and many have added benefits such as anti-ageing, anti-acne or plumping the skin!

I've listed 6 of my personal favourite products for a more even complexion, all 100% natural of course, and included a little more about each below.

Earthwise Beauty Ferns & Moss Serum
SHOP: AU / USA (use code LIBERTYGREEN to save 15% off)

This serum is more of an oil than your typical water-based serum. It's very rich, and quite thick in consistency for an oil/serum. The Ferns & Moss Serum is very concentrated - I only need 2-3 tiny drops to apply to skin, or spot-treat the areas of concern.

I use this on any stubborn (or bigger) blemishes or pigmentation to heal faster, and also help stop the dryness that can occur around blemishes. If my skin is having a bit of a moment, I'll apply a few drops all over to promote a more evenly toned complexion and clear any pigmentation. It's one of my favourite products to keep on hand should any troublesome areas arise.

This deeply nurturing, concentrated treatment product in the form of a thick, substantial facial oil was created especially for the skin that needs serious nourishing, repair, restructuring, moisture retention, healing, cell regeneration, or detoxing (a need for detoxing is evident as recurring dark spots or an overall unhealthily dark or dull facial appearance, or as water retention and a puffy appearance), as well as damage and wrinkle reversal.

Edible Beauty No.3 Exotic Goddess Ageless Serum
SHOP: AU + International (use code LIBERTYGREEN20 to save 20% off every order)

I've only recently begun using this (around 2mths, whereas I've used all of the other products mentioned longer-term), but as with all Edible Beauty skincare, I've seen a difference pretty quickly in my skin. The No.3 Exotic Goddess Serum not just helps fight pigmentation, sun spots & age spots, but it also plumps the skin thanks to the Hyalouronic Acid and Beta Glucan, helps prevent acne and provides antioxidant protection with vitamin-C rich Acerola & Kakadu Plum, diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and combats the signs of ageing overall.

In the time I've been using this serum, my skin is feeling more plump and hydrated (in a subtle way, I think if my skin were older I'd see a bigger difference, as there isn't too much to plump up at my age), which is in turn making my skin look healthier overall. It also helps fade post-acne pigmentation and my skin is looking bright and radiant again after it went through a pretty dull patch for a few months. I'm actually happy with my foundation-free skin again, and most days only use a little concealer where necessary.

Erica Brooke Skincare Emerald Elixir
SHOP: AU (use code LIBERTYGREEN to save 10% off your 1st order)

This light, silky serum is a great anti-ageing serum, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, prevent acne, provide antioxidant protection, even the skin tone and help with acne scarring & hyper pigmentation. When I was using this, my skin felt smoother, I noticed the fine lines under my eyes were less visible and it really helped to keep my complexion even and radiant!
As it's so light and fast absorbing, the Emerald Elixir is brilliant to layer with other products, and especially good if you don't like your products to leave any feeling of residue on the skin.

Kypris Beauty Moonlight Catalyst Serum
SHOP: AU  (use code LIBERTYGREEN to save 10% off any order) / USA / UK
I've been using the Moonlight Catalyst Serum for a little over a year now. It is a herbal alternative to retinoid treatments, it helps the skin shed dead skin cells, helps keeps pores clear, helps fade post-acne marks and evens the skin tone. It also has long-term anti-ageing benefits.
I don't rely on this alone to help fade pigmentation, as that isn't one of the primary functions of the Moonlight Catalyst, however paired with one of the other products mentioned here, it definitely helps speed up the process.

The herbal alternative to retinoid formulas employs a balance of renewing fermented pumpkin enzymes, biomimetic EGF, and hydrating botanical extracts to improve and revive your complexion without irritation or peeling.
Enhances cellular renewal, Refines texture, Helps keep pores clear, Evens skin tone, Diminishes evidence of previous blemishes, Free from essential oils to accommodate reactive skin, Calms, soothes, and plumps to a radiant, creamy, glow.

La Belle Lune Organic Skin Oil
SHOP: AU / UK + rest of world

If you prefer an oil (which my skin absolutely loves!), La Belle Lune's Organic Skin is one of the loveliest I've ever had the pleasure of using. It's silky silky soft, very light yet rich and fast absorbing.
It also has a heavenly scent. This oil helped even my skin tone, completely reduced a bit of redness I had on my chin and nose, promotes hydration and prevents and reduces fine lines, while working to reduce scars and sun damage. It also left my skin feeling super soft!

With a wonderful aroma, these oils also protect skin from pollutants and free radicals, stimulate cell regeneration, tighten, tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines whilst moisturising and protecting at a cellular level.

May Lindstrom Skin The Clean Dirt

The Clean Dirt is a powder-to-mousse exfoliant, and not something one would typically think of when searching for products to combat pigmentation. It's rich in vitamin C and warming spices, clay & minerals, that gets the circulation going in the skin, and always leaves my skin feeling silky-smooth. Since it's not technically designed to reduce the appearance of pigmentation, I'm recommending this only for post-acne marks and scarring only. It does wonders for helping clear congestion, which in turn equals a clearer, more radiant complexion, and I also find it really helpful to prevent blemishes as well as fade pigmentation much more quickly with regular use.
I also sometimes mix a bit into my masks!

I hope you find something that suits your skin, needs and preferences, and if you have any questions, leave a comment below, on Instagram or email me!

Organic Island Skincare Review

Thursday, June 08, 2017

I'm continually surprised by amount of beautiful, 100% natural brands that are on the market these days. We have so much choice now, and with brands, formulas and packaging becoming more sophisticated, it can get a little tricky telling them apart. The Organic Island is an Australian organic skincare and baby care range. Every product contains Certified Organic ingredients, and is 100% natural and/or naturally derived, as well as being Australian made and Cruelty Free.

I've been trialling the Paw Paw Lip Salve, Nourishing Hand Creme, Active Antioxidant Day Creme, Deep Nourishing Night Creme and Restructuring Eye Creme for several weeks.

I live in a climate that is extremely windy for most of the year, and especially so once Autumn and Winter arrive. My hands, lips and skin in general always ends up really dry, so I have to apply something daily to prevent my skin from becoming uncomfortable, irritated and chapped.

I love the packaging for this brand - airless pumps are my favourite dispenser for face and eye creams, because it not only protects the product from air exposure, but it also means every last drop is used up. I also like the squeeze tube for the hand cream and lip balm - they're easy to dispense and you can get out the very last drop.

You can shop Organic Island here: Shop online

Paw Paw Lip Salve 25ml / SHOP

I remember the big fuss a few years ago when people realised that a certain popular papaya lip salve was basically just vaseline, with a minuscule percentage of actual papaya extract in the formula.

Well, the good news is, this lip salve is so much more than petroleum jelly and a drop of papaya- it's completely petrochemical free (of course), and is rich in healing, nourishing ingredients. Cocoa butter, Organic Beeswax, Castor Seed Oil, Vitamin E and of course Papaya, all work to heal, hydrate and keep lips smooth sand soft.
This lip salve has become my hero product. I received it during a week when I had the flu, and my lips were raw, swollen, peeling and very very sore. Nothing was really helping, except a calendula and vitamin e cream. I put a generous layer of the Organic Island Paw Paw Lip Salve on and my lips felt instantly soothed. Within a few days they were healed up completely.

In my opinion, this is much better than a lip balm. The texture is slightly sticky and thick - almost like a gel, but it thins and warms with touch. It also feels really soothing on the lips, stays on and hydrates (unlike some balms which I feel just stay on top without actually doing anything) and looks like a clear gloss.

Aside from repairing and preventing chapped, peeling lips, I actually like using this to really plump my lips prior to applying lipstick. It also works well over colour and looks quite pretty (because it does have a really glossy finish) on it's own.

It's also nicely priced at under $10 and in a generously sized tube (most lip balms are around 10ml-15ml), so you can have one for home, your bag, the kids, office etc.

Nourishing Hand Creme 100ml / SHOP

It's PINK. I don't know why more brands don't embrace that oh-so feminine, gorgeous colour. Give me pink and I'm sold.

Aside from the colour, I actually do love this hand creme. It isn't greasy like a LOT of creams are, and absorbs really nicely into the skin. I also find a little goes a really long way. One 20c-sized piece will do both hands and arms up past my elbows. It leaves my skin feeling very soft and hydrated, and I noticed a difference pretty quickly in the softness of my skin.

The texture is tricky to describe - it's definitely cream-like, but there's also something about all of the products that feels a little bit gel-like. As I said, it's tricky to describe, but you'll know what I mean when you try them. Regardless, it's a really lovely product, and I never feel like I have to wash any residue off afterwards.

It is contains NOP Organic Lycii Berry, Olive Leaf, Rosehip, Avocado, Vitamin E and Macadamia, as well as Aloe Vera, Sunflower Oil and Beeswax.

I've also been using this anywhere else on my body that feels in need of nourishment - arms, legs, elbows - wherever. Very hydrating and very light!

Restructuring Eye Cream 30ml / SHOP

The eye cream has a similar texture to the hand cream - very much a cream, but a hint of a gel to it. A creamy texture, but with a little bit of "stiffness" so it holds itself in a peak if you put your finger into it.

I find this really hydrating, and it's definitely helped with fine lines and dehydration. A tiny bit goes a long way - I used about a half pea sized amount for both eyes and all round the orbital bone. My skin feels softer and more moisturised, but I haven't noticed a difference in dark circles from this cream. If lines are your issue, however, it's definitely good for those!

This formula uses powerful active antioxidants including NOP Organic Eye Bright Extract™, Rosehip, Sea Kelp, Green Tea and Olive Leaf.

Clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines, dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.

I've been using it both day and night and it also works well under makeup - it doesn't pill/ball up at all, and keeps my skin looking fresh. If you struggle with dryness under makeup, I'd also recommend using this creme first. Let it absorb for 10mins or so before makeup. When I use it in the evening, I wakeup to my skin still feeling really hydrated, which I also think is why it's so good for reducing lines and wrinkles.

Active Antioxidant Day Creme 100ml / SHOP

This creme is again very similar in texture to the hand and eye creme.
I personally find it a bit heavy for my face, but I've mentioned many times in the past that I'm very fussy with face creams, and I usually prefer oils and balms.

I do really like this for my décolleté, however (which I can't stand using oils on, haha). It's very hydrating and has helped with the appearance of fine lines, which I seem to get easily when my skin is lacking moisture.

Created with powerful antioxidants including Rosehip, Olive Leaf, Sea Kelp, Green Tea and Vitamin E. Delivered using Si02 Matrix, OliveM 1000 and Lexfeel Natural.
Scientifically formulated to effectively protect your skin against everyday elements that cause dry and uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles.

Overall, I think it's a great all-rounder, especially if dehydration and fine lines/wrinkles are what you are looking to combat, and you want soft, smooth skin.

Deep Nourishing Repair Night Creme 50ml / SHOP

Like the Day Creme, I found this a little heavy for my face, but I love it for my neck and décolleté. It's very moisturising, without being heavy or tacky or leaving a residue behind. It absorbs quickly and like all of the other Organic Island products, a little goes a long way.

Active antioxidants - Rosehip, Green Tea, Olive Leaf, Macadamia and Vitamin E plus our advanced breakthrough formulas are combined to create a luxurious crème. Your skin is intensely nourished overnight to reveal a dramatically improved, replenished and re-energised complexion.

Clinically proven to increase skin hydration, reduce fine lines and reduce pore size.

I've also found it to help with my skin tone - it's more even and supple after a few weeks of regular use. Again it's brilliant for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and keeping the skin hydrated and smooth.

My thoughts overall

I LOVE the Paw Paw Lip Salve and think it's a MUST-HAVE for Winter, or anyone with dry or chapped lips. I also really like the hand creme.

The eye, day and night cremes are all really good products, especially for those with dry, dehydrated or mature skin, and if you want an easy, simple to use routine.

The Best Organic & Natural Lipsticks

Monday, June 05, 2017

Lipstick is my main "thing" (very technical, aren't I?) when it comes to makeup. Some people rock a smokey eye, but I just tend to look more grunge than glam, and like I haven't slept in 36hrs. I also like to be able to put a look together quickly, and love clean, dewy skin more than anything else.
And I really love the combination of a nude eye with a bold lip. Instant, effortless glamour.

So naturally, over the years, I've collected and trialled quite a number of lipsticks. Below is a list of all the organic and natural lipsticks I own and have tried over time, what I love about them and why.
I've also put a rating out of 10 on each, based on performance, colour range, packaging, formula and how organic/natural the range is. Please see the end of each description for my scoring reasoning.
Click through any for more info and photos.

Don't forget to use code LIBERTYGREEN when you shop to save $$.

Axiology Lipsticks / Rating: 10/10

The Axiology lipsticks glide onto my lips like butter. They also have a really unusual range of colours (including black!) which I love for those that like to get a little daring! The packaging is also STUNNING in metallic gold (and even the pair for the boxes is recycled). All of the colours I've tried so far are very flattering and long-wearing. The pigment depends on the shade, some are more sheer/subtle colours, and others are completely opaque. The ingredients are 100% natural, and 100% naturally pigmented. They are also Vegan.

Ere Perez Rich Olive Oil Lipsticks / Rating: 8/10

These are another brilliant product from a wonderful Australian brand. Their Olive Oil Lipsticks are really long lasting, very pigmented and have good staying power. They are 100% natural or naturally derived, and free from synthetic pigments.
8/10 because of the plastic packaging and non-organic ingredients.

Hynt Beauty ARIA Pure Lipstick / Rating: 9/10

Hynt Beauty's Lipsticks not only look super pretty, come with a handy mirror hidden in the lid (and a lip balm), but they're also very moisturising and feel super comfortable on the lips. The colour is very concentrated, not at all sheer, and doesn't feather or bleed.

Free of Petrochemicals, Parabens, Nano-particles, Bismuth Oxychloride, Talc, Silicones, Mineral Oil, GMO’s, FD&C dyes, Carmine and Phthalates.

UPDATE: Turns out this is a packaging issue, but it is going to be updated and fixed soon! Yay! The only issue I had with these lipsticks - which could have been due to the hot summer weather - was that the bullet shifted in the tube, so it scraped against the side of the tube every time it was wound up and down, unless I shifted it back to centre first. This could have been an issue with my particular lipstick, or maybe it softened in the heat (it did take weeks to arrive in the post). I haven't had enough experience with their lipsticks to know if it's a common problem. That said, I LOVE the creaminess of Hynt's lipsticks, and because they are so moisturising I definitely didn't need a lip balm and sometimes used it instead of!!

Points deducted for the bullet/tube issue, and plastic packaging. Otherwise, it's a brilliant product.

ILIA Beauty Lipsticks / Rating: 9/10
Everything you want in a lipstick. The packaging is chic and recyclable.
All of the lipsticks are creamy, and hydrating, but don't slip around, feather or bleed. The colour is also long lasting. Whilst all of the lipsticks are at least 72% Certified Organic, some contain a small amount of synthetic pigment, where others are 100% natural pigment.
I've deducted a point because of this only.

Karen Murrell Lipsticks / Rating: 7/10

If you want highly pigmented, long lasting colour, Karen Murrell delivers. I find these lipsticks creamy, but I do prefer to prep my lips with a balm first as they are on the drier side than many of my other lipsticks, and my lips are always REALLY dry. It isn't a dry or drying lipstick, though. The tube feels really lovely, chic and solid (not at all flimsy)

The ingredients are also all natural or naturally derived. The pigments are a mix of natural and synthetic pigment, depending on the shade. Based on performance and colour range, I'd give Karen Murrell Lipsticks a 10/10, but have come back to a 7/10 taking into consideration the pigment, and plastic packaging. They are a still a brilliant option - especially if you're hunting for a lipstick under $30!

Kjaer Weis Lipsticks / Rating: 9/10 - 10/10

Ok, so the rating on this depends on the shade. Whilst most of the shades are 100% natural, certified organic and Eco-Cert, two shades, Love & Empower, have 1% synthetic pigment to give that ultra, almost neon-bright colour. That's the only reason for a 9/10.
These lipsticks are also completely refillable and the packaging is recyclable. The lipsticks are also probably the loveliest I've ever used. They feel velvety and smooth on the lips, and the colour is really long wearing, and extremely comfortable to wear. I'm also in love with the shade ADORE, an old-Hollywood-glam style red. (It's my birthday soon...anyone want to send one my way? No?)

Lily Lolo Lipsticks / Rating: 7/10

The Lily Lolo lipsticks are a great option for those looking for a more budget friendly choice. The colours are all very pigmented, and very creamy. I found I had the same issue as I did with the Hynt lipsticks with these - after a time, the bullet shifts in the tube to scrape against the side. It's not a huge issue, but it does destroy the bullet a bit if you aren't careful, or use a lip brush.
That said, their Rose Gold Lipstick is actually one of my favourites, and the creaminess means my lips are always kept smooth and hydrated, and it's really easy to reapply and touch up. The colour range is also really pretty. They are however 100% natural and free from synthetic dyes.
Plastic packaging and the bullet/movement issue have made it a 7/10.

LUK Beautifood Lip Nourish / Rating: 9/10

Lipstick meet lip balm. These are very moisturising for the lips, lightly tinted (the colour is sheer with   the exception of a few more pigmented shades) and made with ingredients only safe enough to EAT. Yep, you can't get much cleaner than that.
I really wanted to give these a 10/10, because the majority of the packaging is very thoughtful - the outer wrapping is a reusable microfibre cloth you can clean glasses or screens with, but part of the tube itself is plastic, so I've gone 9/10.

NUDUS Lipsticks / Rating: 9/10

Nudus Australia Lipsticks are 100% natural, Certified Organic richly pigmented lipsticks blended with nourishing ingredients. The colours are formulated from bioactive extracts of flowers, fruits, herbs and minerals. 27 active ingredients, including vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K and antioxidants such as pomegranate, raspberry and kiwi cold pressed oils protect against environmental stress. Shea butter and avocado, coconut and argan oils leave lips soft, hydrated and moisturized. Free from parabens, petro-chemicals, lanolin, hydrogenated oils, fd&c and lake dyes, nano-particles, gmo, pesticides and fungicides, these are some of the best formulas you can get!

All of the colours glide onto the lips effortlessly, and are really intensely pigmented. These are probably some of the longest-lasting lipsticks I've found. The collection currently has fifteen shades - but each of these is incredible versatile, well-thought out and universally flattering. There's no doubling-up within the shades, and there's something for everyone.

The only reason I've docked a point is for the plastic in the packaging - which is beautiful, but judging on an overall eco-friendly perspective, it is one area that could be improved.

RMS Beauty Lip Shine / Rating: 8/10

I like this product, but I'm not in love with it. It's partly the shade I chose (Sacred, a bight poppy red which I don't often wear) and partly the gloss factor. I'm more of a semi-matte than a glossy lip person. These are a kind of gloss-meets-lipstick. I find I have to be careful with application to not have it bleed. They are SUPER pigmented, however, and really moisturising, and look very youthful and pretty on the lips. There is a slight stickiness.
All of the ingredients are 100% natural and some Certified Organic, however some of the shades (not all) contain 1% synthetic pigment.

Tata Harper Volumising Lip & Cheek Tint / Rating: 9/10

Whilst not technically a lipstick, I've included this any way. Please keep in mind these are "tints" - so not as fully opaque as a lipstick. On the lips they are super hydrating, and keep the lips looking plump and glossy. I love them for a more relaxed look, or if I just want to be apply to reapply without the need for a mirror.
They are also 100% natural, with Certified Organic ingredients and glass packaging (with a metal lid) - 100% recyclable. I've gone 9/10 because they aren't technically a lipstick..

Vapour Beauty Siren Lipsticks / Rating: 10/10

These lipsticks are ultra-sleek, available in a huge range of colours, and all are moisturising, long-lasting and with high pigment. They're also really easy to reapply without a mirror (providing you aren't wearing something super fussy like bright red). Each is also 70% Certified Organic, and 30% mineral pigments - no synthetic dyes in sight. I also love their Multi-Use Lip & Cheek colours.

Have you tried any of these lipsticks, or eyeing any off? I hope this blog has been useful! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below, email me, or ask via Instagram. And don't forget to always check my discount codes before shopping to save $$! Many of them can be used every order.

Natura Siberica Maximus Volume Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Mask Review

Thursday, June 01, 2017

I can't be the only person that has struggled to find natural hair care that not only works exceptionally well, but doesn't cost a small fortune to boot. Good quality, effective and high performance natural hair care does exist. It just seems that most of it comes with a price tag that belongs in the high end range of things, with very few in the mid-range price bracket.

I don't mind my styling products being more expensive, as I don't use nearly as much and they aren't used every day. For shampoo and conditioner, however, I go through it too quickly to be able to splurge that bit extra.

Because of this never-ending struggle, I was so excited when Natura Siberica contacted me about their range. I'd had a sample of one of their hand creams once in a subscription box (it was gorgeous) so I was really excited to try their hair care range. With an impressive list of certifications (including EcoCert & Cosmos Certified Organic) on many of their products and ingredients, and a wide range of products from hair to body to baby, the range has been available in Australia since 2015, but will be launching in Chemist Warehouse stores from today!

Always looking for more volume for my hair, I chose the Oblepikha Siberica Maximum Volume Shampoo & Conditioner, and the Hair Mask for Normal to Dry Hair.

Full disclosure

You'll understand this once we get through the review.

I know this is all personal preference, and it is up to each of us to decide what we are and aren't comfortable with, or can or cannot afford. For me, I've found that in order to have a mid-range natural shampoo usually means it includes one or two ingredients I usually prefer to avoid.

I've made the decision to be OK with this for a couple of reasons.

Number one being I always maintain the attitude of do what you can.

Number two - I'm also realistic that it is impossible to achieve a purely organic and/or natural existence. Even if my shampoo were 100% clean, and I ate 100% Certified Organic food, the environment that we live in is not. Other people still use non-organic food, which means the chemicals used to grow that food is in the air and soil and water. Shops use non-organic cleaners which we have to breathe when we go out, or your hair dresser might wear her favourite Chanel perfume that you get a waft of as you get your hair done.

This doesn't mean that I'm going to start using synthetic products left, right and centre. I still very much have the attitude of minimising my synthetic chemical exposure where and when is possible.

Oblepikha Siberica Maximum Volume Shampoo Conditioner Review / 400ml

I never have much faith in products that claim to volumise my hair, even though I always approach them with great hopes (I think I'm contradicting myself, there).

The Oblepikha Siberica Maximum Volume Shampoo & Conditioner claim to:
"Gives hair incredible volume from its very roots
Nourishes and saturates hair with essential moisture
Makes hair thicker and more elastic"

I was just hoping for something that would leave my hair feeling nice and clean.

From the very first wash my hair felt thicker, and more voluminous. Not kidding, or exaggerating.
I'm always told by hairdressers that my hair is thick, although I don't really feel like it is, because both of my sisters have much, much thicker hair than me (the hair itself is fine, but we just have a lot of it). I was always the 'fine' haired one out of us.

I'll always take any extra volume I can get, thank you very much.
Aside from the added volume and feeling of thickness, my hair also feels very soft and silky, it stays feeling clean and fresher for longer too.

The conditioner is also the first one I've used in years that doesn't weigh my hair down or make it feel like it needs a second wash. For some reason, my hair never does well with conditioner however little I use. This one is really lovely and just adds extra hydration and shine back into my hair, although I can do without it too, as the shampoo doesn't strip my hair and leave it feeling all squeaky.

I've been using them for about 4wks or so now and my hair still feels glorious after every wash.
The shampoo and conditioner also smell gorgeous, and I don't even need to mention the packaging.

It's so pretty and luxe.

Also, the bottles being coloured the way they are helps stop accidentally picking up the wrong bottle first - "blue for shampoo" 😆

A note on the ingredients

Both the shampoo and conditioner are 100% natural and/or naturally derived with an exception noted below), with many of the ingredients being wild harvested or Certified Organic. You'll note that parfum is listed on the ingredients. This is due to EU regulations requiring something even from essential oils to be listed as fragrance (because of the potential to irritate sensitive skin).

All ingredients in the Oblepikha Siberica are sourced from organic and natural agriculture and the parfum is sourced naturally.

With the exception of the Cyclopentasiloxane listed in the conditioner and hair mask.
This ingredient is a synthetic silicone. It is not included in the shampoo.

As I mentioned above, I've made the decision to be OK with one or two synthetic ingredients for shampoo/conditioner, if it means finding something effective.

The role of silicones in hair products is to give hair that silky feeling and finish. A silicone like Cyclopentasiloxane is a lightweight silicone and won't weigh the hair down. Some people like silicones in their hair products and find it best for their hair, others prefer to avoid them because it "coats" the hair, which can lead to product build-up over time.

The shampoo is completely free of all silicones, whereas the conditioner also has dimethicone listed too.

As I mentioned above, I actually haven't been using conditioner for over 10yrs now, just shampoo, and this is the product I love the most. I shampoo every night, but I'm only using conditioner when I feel like my hair is feeling dry, as the shampoo doesn't strip my hair out and require the conditioner to put the moisture back in.

Hair Mask for Normal to Dry Hair Review / SHOP

The Hair Mask claims to:
"Intensively hydrates hair
Makes hair softer and stronger
Makes brushing easier"

It is recommended to use 2-3 times a week after shampooing (in place of conditioner). I scoop out the required amount into a bowl, because it's tricky not to get water in an open tub in the shower. I use a good sized dollop on my hair (which is a short - medium length ATM) and combed it through with a wide-tooth comb.

My hair does feel beautifully silky, soft and smooth after using this mask, although I used a bit much the first time and my hair felt a bit heavy afterwards, so experiment with the right amount.

It's really nice for when if my hair needs some TLC. I have tried DIY hair masks before (coconut oil being one of the most popular recommendations) and I always find them too heavy and too much for my hair no matter how little I use - I always have to shampoo 2-3 times to get it all out.

I also got my sister who has really dry, super fine but very thick (lots of it) hair, and she definitely noticed a difference in the silkiness of her hair afterwards and commented on how much easier it was to brush.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this shampoo.
For the first time in years my hair feels incredible, and you can bet your sweet aunt I'll be repurchasing.

If you've been struggling like I have to find an effective shampoo, and want more volume and thickness to your hair, you will LOVE the Oblepikha Siberica Maximum Volume Shampoo, and if you're OK with the silicones, the Maximum Volume Conditioner is also brilliant without weighing my hair down.

If the silicones are a problem for you, Natura Siberica do have conditioners without the silicones (the Fresh Spa Detox Honey Conditioner here and the Northern Cloudberry Conditioner here)

Me (and my hair!) are so happy to have found this line!
You can purchase Natura Siberica here and Chemist Warehouse stores around Australia from today.
