Hot Christmas Spice Milkshake | Recipe

With cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, this Hot Christmas Spice Milkshake tastes just like Christmas in a cup! A creamy, sweet, spiced treat that is delicious either hot or cold. It is easy to whip up, and doesn't require anything you won't readily have in the pantry. It is absolutely delicious with an after dinner treat or served cold in the afternoon.

The recipe below makes enough for about 4 (generous) or 6 regular mugs, depending on size.
All measurements are metric measurements.

One tsp = 5ml

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of ground nutmeg + extra to dust
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 5-8 heaped teaspoons of honey, to taste (just a regular teaspoon, not the 5ml measuring spoon)
  • 2L of full-cream milk

Method

  1. Place milk and all ingredients (except the honey) in a 4L high-sided saucepan, and place over a medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  2. Once the milk has begun to warm, add 5 heaped (regular) teaspoons of the honey. Once the honey has dissolved, you can add more to taste.
  3. As the milk begins to near the desired drinking temperature, blend using a stick blender until it froths (if it's not hot enough, it won't form a froth). You'll need a saucepan with enough room to blend the milk without causing it to spill. If you don't have a stick blender, you can use a whisk or hand-held beaters.
  4. Continue to heat until reached desired drinking temperature.
  5. Pour into mugs and sprinkle with extra nutmeg. Serve, and enjoy!

You can refrigerate any extra and simply serve cold, or follow the method below for making an iced Christmas Spice Milkshake.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of ground nutmeg + extra to dust
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 5-8 heaped teaspoons of honey, to taste (just a regular teaspoon, not the 5ml measuring spoon)
  • 2L of full-cream milk
  • + a little boiling water

Method

  1. Pour about a third of the milk into a blender, milkshake shaker or tall jug (use a stick blender for this)
  2. Place the spices, vanilla and honey in heat-proof jug. Add enough boiling water to dissolve the honey. and stir.
  3. Add the honey and spice mixture to the milk.
  4. Blend until frothy, then gradually add the remaining milk, blending as you go.
  5. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with extra nutmeg.
Enjoy!
