Adorn Liquid Mineral Foundation Review

Natural liquid or cream foundations can be tricky to find in an oil-free (or just coconut oil free) formula, and for those that find their skin reacts badly to oils, it can be frustrating.

The Organic Project is an Australian organic beauty & lifestyle shop, and they've also recently launched their USA site! They carry a great range of products and Australian brands - including Ere Perez, Simple As That, Nudus, Erica Brooke and Nilly & Booth.

Adorn Cosmetics is an Australian make-up and skincare brand that doesn't compromise on ethics, quality or luxury. Their products are cruelty free, non-toxic, vegan and Australia made & owned.

I opted for the shade Light - Medium in the foundation, and the colour Spring in the blush, which I will be reviewing separately.

Swatch Comparison, L-R: Kjaer Weis Foundation in Silken, RMS Beauty "Un" Coverup in #11, and Adorn Cosmetics Liquid Mineral Foundation in Light-Medium

Shade

My skin tone is light to medium, with neutral undertones. I wear rms beauty "Un" Coverup in #11 and Kjaer Weis Foundation in Silken, for reference.

As you can see in the swatch comparison above, the shade Light - Medium is a shade or so darker than what I usually wear, and has more pink than neutral or yellow undertones. That said, I can make it work for me, and during Summer however, it would probably be a closer match.

I do look a bit bronzed if I apply too much, so the shade Fair would probably be a better match for my skin tone, but with some blending (and mixing with the rms beauty "Un" Coverup), I can get away with it.

Coverage & Finish

The coverage of the Adorn Cosmetics Liquid Mineral Foundation is buidable from light to medium.
It evens the skin beautifully and gives medium coverage on blemishes - I applied the rms beauty "Un" Coverup in #11 over any redness still showing through afterwards, and around the eyes to brighten.

The foundation gives a very natural look, with a soft satin finish. As it is an oil-free formula, I didn't really need a setting powder (I gave a light dusting of the rms beauty Tinted "Un" Powder in 0-1 over the chin, t-zone, jawline, under the eyes and over the eyelids)

Formula, Application & Packaging

This was the weirdest thing for me (in a good way). It is called a Liquid Mineral Foundation, but it has almost a mousse texture vs a liquid, that dries quickly. It is actually difficult to describe, but the foundation feels very cool going onto the skin (similar to a wet clay mask), and is very lightweight once dry (you can sort of feel it drying/evaporating - it's a nicely odd sensation to have a "cool" foundation, almost like an air-con on your face!) I barely knew it was there.

To apply, I use 1-2 pumps onto the back of my hand, then dot it onto my face. I then blend and buff it out with my MOTD Cosmetics Beauty & The Base Foundation Brush, for a flawless, seamless finish. If I need more coverage you can build it up with another half pump or so. A little goes a very long way with this, so don't overdo it. You can always apply more if needed!

The Adorn Cosmetics Liquid Mineral Foundation doesn't settle into fine lines or cling to dry patches, and as it is oil-free, I didn't notice any additional shine or dewiness develop throughout the day. It lasts all day with no/minimal touch-ups and does not become patchy (as I've noticed some liquid foundations can do)

The packaging is sleek, airless pump (with a protective cap) and is very lightweight. It would be super easy to toss into your gym bag or for travelling with.

Overall

I was actually really surprised by this foundation - the texture was different than I was expecting, but it feels absolutely lovely and lightweight on the skin and I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it holds up in the Summer months, when everything feels like it's going to melt off my face in the humid, tropical Queensland heat. I think this one will last quite well!

The coverage is great, it blends easily with other products and lasts all day. I'm excited to explore more from the range!

  1. Thanks for the lovely review--and gorgeous photos! Sounds like their fair might be too dark for me, though. Quick question--I am confused about this being labeled oil-free because it has "Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride" in the ingredients list?

  2. Thank you! The Fair is a fair bit lighter than the Light-Medium shade, which I chose, so if you are quite fair it may work for you. I don't know if TOP offer samples, but I know you can purchase them from Adorn Cosmetics to try: https://www.adorncosmetics.com.au/samples/foundation.html

Capric Triglyceride is derived from Coconut Oil, therefore only a component of the oil, not technically an oil itself, but a fatty acid, and is not an oily or wax-like substance. You can find some more info here: http://www.paulaschoice.com/cosmetic-ingredient-dictionary/definition/capryliccapric-triglyceride

    I hope that helps! x
